The Steps of Our Trenchless Sewer Repair Methods in Reston
When a customer calls with a concern about their sewer pipeline, we begin with a sewer camera inspection. This process does not invade your landscaping or make a mess in your home.
Sewer camera inspections are a quick and organized way to view the inside of your home’s sewer pipeline all the way to the street side connection with the community’s main sewer line. If this inspection reveal a crack or clog in the pipeline, our expert technician will be able to concisely determine if the solution is to scrub clean the inside of the pipeline or to perform a repair.
Scrubbing clean the inside of the pipeline is performed when a snag or clog has formed with in the pipeline, causing slow draining of wastewater or noisy groaning pipes. The scrubbing process is called hydro jetting. Hydro jetting uses water, a very high-pressure pump, and a flexible hose and attached rotating, water spraying nozzle. The hose and nozzle are inserting into the pipeline to the location of the snag. The high-pressure water that is emitted powerfully detaches the snag, and rinses it down to the water main under the street.
Another sewer camera inspection is performed to confirm the success of removing the snag and also to check for any cracks that might have been hidden by the layer of corrosion that often lines the interior pipeline wall over the course of time.
How Our Pipeline Repairs are Trenchless & Eco-Friendly
If we detect a leak through our sewer camera inspection, the cured-in-place pipe lining (CIPP) process is most often recommended to fix it. The CIPP process involves an inflatable lining coated with an epoxy resin. The lining is inserted into the pipeline and the sewer camera can be used to confirm the correct placement.
The liner is inflated, pressing the resin against the interior pipeline wall. The liner holds the resin in place for a few hours while it hardens and cures. Afterwards, the lining is deflated and removed. A new, durable interior pipe wall remains.
Occasionally a pipeline crack is large enough that the pipeline requires replacement. Even in this circumstance, digging up the old pipeline is not required. When a pipeline requires replacement, the trenchless method of pipe bursting is performed. Pipe bursting involves fitting the incoming pipeline with a torpedo like pipe bursting head.
Using a chain and a pulling machine at the far end of the broken pipeline, the new pipe and torpedo head are pulled into the old pipe. This process breaks the old pipeline into fragments that are safely pushed into the surrounding soil. The new pipeline can be drawn into place under driveways, walkways and landscaping without disturbance.
